Union and SEI Network Integration: Expanding ZK-Based Interoperability

Interchain Project Union Integrates Sei (SEI) into Testnet Application

The interchain infrastructure project, Union, announced on the 6th that it has integrated the highly efficient blockchain Sei (SEI) into its testnet application. This marks the commencement of a dedicated effort to connect Sei, known for its high transaction processing capability, with the Bitcoin (BTC)-based decentralized finance (BTCfi) ecosystem.

Sei operates as a Layer 1 blockchain featuring a parallelized architecture, allowing it to process thousands of transactions per second. Through its testnet application, Union aims to support seamless asset transfers to and from Sei while also introducing a rewards program, known as “Union XP.” The program allows users to earn rewards by completing specific tasks—such as daily transfers to Sei or achieving a total of 200 deposits.

This integration is seen as more than just a technical testing phase. It is perceived as a demonstration of the technological superiority of Union’s ZK (zero-knowledge) based interoperability infrastructure. Traditional blockchain bridge systems primarily rely on two frameworks: General Message Passing (GMP) and solver-based bridges.

GMP enables message transmission but is heavily reliant on third-party verification, which raises significant security concerns. Conversely, solver-based bridges support rapid transfers but lack the computational complexity for tasks like message interpretation or contract execution.

Union has developed a system to overcome these limitations. At its core is a “ZK-based consensus verification” mechanism that validates the integrity of transactions without depending on third parties. It employs a combination of ZK-SNARK and BLS signatures to mathematically prove transaction validity, ensuring both decentralization and security.

Modular Architecture Powers Union’s Advantage

Union implements this architecture through three modular components: the consensus engine "Comet BLS," the ZK compression layer "Gallois," and the messaging transmission layer "Voyager." This structure ensures compatibility not only with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) but also with various environments including Move VM and Bitcoin Layer 2, facilitating connections without complex relayers.

In addition, Union’s infrastructure integrates intent-based design along with a proprietary Solver API, which enables advanced functionalities such as contract calls, state verification, and NFT transfers. A Union representative stated, “We’re not just another bridge solution. We represent a new category that merges ZK-based validation with intent-driven design.”

Setting New Standards in Blockchain Interoperability

The Sei integration underscores Union’s emergence as a new standard in interoperability infrastructure. Using Union’s framework, users can leverage cross-chain assets and functionalities without the need to recognize the boundaries between ecosystems.

As the blockchain industry progresses toward real-world utility, Union is positioned as a critical infrastructure contributor, bridging the gap between multiple blockchain ecosystems.
