# Dubai Collaborates with Crypto.com to Introduce Cryptocurrency Payments for Public Services
Dubai's Department of Finance (DoF) has partnered with cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com to launch cryptocurrency payments for public services, according to Crypto News on May 13. This pioneering move places Dubai among the first governments worldwide to fully embrace cryptocurrency payments, marking a significant stride toward establishing itself as a crypto-friendly hub.
Announced at the Dubai Fintech Summit on May 12, the agreement will enable both individuals and businesses to use cryptocurrency wallets for secure digital payments of government fees. The cryptocurrencies used will be converted into UAE dirhams (AED) and deposited into the Dubai DoF's accounts. Crypto.com highlighted that this initiative is a crucial step in realizing Dubai's vision of a cashless society.
# Dubai's Ambition to Become a Global Cryptocurrency Hub
This initiative is part of Dubai's broader strategy to position itself as a global center for financial innovation. The emirate is actively advancing its "Cashless Society Strategy," targeting the digitization of over 90% of financial transactions in both public and private sectors by 2026.
The Dubai DoF anticipates that the adoption of blockchain-based payment systems will streamline financial services, boost fintech growth, and contribute at least AED 8 billion (approximately $2.2 billion) annually to the local economy.
This agreement represents the first instance of a government directly integrating cryptocurrency payments into its digital infrastructure, surpassing pilot programs seen in other regions. Upon the completion of technical integration, users will be able to seamlessly and securely transact in cryptocurrency across all participating government agencies through Crypto.com wallets.
