  • Ex-NBA star claims wrongful termination and misuse of his image under crypto ambassador contract
  • Legal dispute centers on WMTX token payments and ongoing use of Thompson’s likeness

On May 31, 2026 (UTC), CoinDesk reported that retired NBA champion Tristan Thompson filed a $2 million lawsuit in Delaware Chancery Court against World Mobile Group, a UK-based crypto telecom firm. Thompson’s complaint alleges that World Mobile breached a brand ambassador agreement signed in May 2025, promising up to $1 million per year in WMTX tokens for two years. According to court filings, Thompson asserts that after an accidental overpayment of tokens, World Mobile terminated his contract under what he calls pretextual circumstances, then continued using his name, image, and likeness in marketing after their split.

Thompson seeks unpaid compensation, additional damages, and a court order to stop further unauthorized use of his identity. The endorsement deal’s compensation was structured in WMTX tokens, making his involvement directly tied to World Mobile’s crypto ecosystem.

The legal action comes just days after Thompson’s May 28 appearance on Khloe Kardashian’s podcast “Khloé in Wonder Land,” where he discussed a vasectomy ultimatum from Kardashian and disclosed that they preserved embryos, with Thompson granting her full embryo rights. This overlap highlights Thompson’s growing public presence in technology and media ventures as he moves beyond basketball.

World Mobile Group and Thompson have not issued public statements on the pending litigation. The Delaware Chancery Court has not scheduled initial hearings or responded to Thompson’s request for injunctive relief, according to CoinDesk.
