- Mt. Gox repayment date moved to October 31, 2027—sixth schedule change since 2023
- Over 34,000 BTC worth $2.8 billion still held pending completion of creditor claims
On October 20, 2026, Decrypt reported that Mt. Gox’s rehabilitation trustee, Nobuaki Kobayashi, has moved the long-awaited creditor repayment deadline to October 31, 2027. This marks the sixth extension of the timeline since 2023 after formal approval by the Tokyo District Court.
Kobayashi attributed the latest delay to ongoing issues with incomplete creditor claims and persistent payment processing hurdles. The problems stem from administrative steps required from creditors, not technical flaws or market volatility.
Wallets associated with Mt. Gox currently hold about 34,388 Bitcoin, valued at nearly $2.8 billion. Further creditor distributions remain on hold until all outstanding claims are resolved and the existing administrative challenges are addressed, according to Decrypt.
