Sui Network Outage Halts $542M Blockchain, SUI Drops 6.6%
- Mainnet disruption lasted nearly six hours, stopping transactions and degrading performance.
- SUI token price fell 6.6% to $0.90 before partial recovery; second major outage in 2026.
On May 30, 2026, Cointelegraph reported that Sui Network, ranked 13th by total value locked, suffered its second major outage of the year with a nearly six-hour disruption. The incident followed a previous outage in January and another in late 2024, underscoring ongoing technical challenges.
A bug introduced in the gas charging logic during the 1.72 release halted all mainnet transactions and degraded validator performance across the network. As a result, the SUI token price declined 6.6%, dropping to $0.90 before rebounding to approximately $0.93.
The repeated disruptions have raised renewed concerns about Sui’s technical stability. These concerns persist despite recent network developments, including institutional staking, zero-fee stablecoin transfers, and new private transaction features.
Sui Network currently supports 137 protocols and reports a total value locked of $542 million, according to DefiLlama. The development team has yet to publish a full incident review. Meanwhile, market observers note that ongoing outages highlight the importance of technical resilience, particularly as institutional interest in high-speed blockchain applications remains strong.
As of May 30, 2026, 12:08 UTC, Sui (SUI) is trading at $0.898, with a -0.79% change in 24-hour trading volume, according to Market Survey.
