KB Kookmin Bank has rolled out a revolutionary digital identification issuance service via its "Kookmin Wallet" feature integrated within the KB Star Banking mobile app, as reported by Block Media’s Kim Jae. This pioneering move allows KB Star Banking users to create and store official digital IDs directly within the app, enhancing convenience and accessibility.

Expanding Access to Digital IDs Beyond Existing Platforms

Until now, digital identification services were primarily accessible through dedicated apps like "Korea Mobile ID" and Samsung Wallet. KB Kookmin Bank's new offering enables users to issue and manage IDs directly from the KB Star Banking app, eliminating the need for multiple platforms. The service is currently optimized for Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later, with plans to extend support to Apple iPhones (iOS) in the near future, broadening the service’s reach.

Legally Equivalent to Physical IDs

The digital IDs available through the service include resident registration cards, driver’s licenses, veteran ID cards, and foreign registration cards. Importantly, these mobile IDs possess the same legal standing as their physical counterparts, ensuring seamless acceptance across a range of scenarios. Whether at banks, hospitals, government offices, or domestic airports, these mobile IDs provide the same functionality and validity as traditional identification documents.

KB Kookmin Bank's participation in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Mobile ID Private Sector Access Project" played a crucial role in bringing this service to life. As a final contractor in the project, the bank developed a solution that successfully met rigorous government standards for compliance and security, underscoring the system’s reliability and safety.
