# BOB Unveils Vision to Merge Bitcoin's Security with Ethereum’s DeFi Capabilities
BOB (Build on Bitcoin), a pioneering blockchain initiative, has introduced its Hybrid Layer 2 (Hybrid L2) vision paper in Korean. The document outlines an ambitious plan to merge Bitcoin (BTC)’s unmatched security with the decentralized finance (DeFi) innovations of Ethereum (ETH). Through this initiative, BOB aims to place Bitcoin at the core of the DeFi landscape.
# Addressing Bitcoin’s Limited Role in DeFi
BOB highlights that Bitcoin’s current participation in the DeFi ecosystem is marginal, with its liquidity significantly underutilized. The project asserts that Hybrid L2 can overcome these inefficiencies. Traditionally, integrating Bitcoin into DeFi has depended on centralized exchanges (CEXs) or wrapped tokens via multisig bridges. BOB plans to bypass these limitations, allowing users to deposit their assets on a platform secured by Bitcoin while engaging in DeFi with reliability and security.
# Bridging Bitcoin’s Security with DeFi Innovations
BOB's Hybrid L2 framework is built on three fundamental components: security rooted in Bitcoin, trust-minimized bridging, and Ethereum interoperability. Utilizing BitVM technology, BOB supports BTC deposits and withdrawals without trusted intermediaries, ensuring asset protection with just one honest node.
Furthermore, BOB enhances its integration with Ethereum by using a bridge based on Bitcoin finality, facilitating the safe deposit and transfer of ETH and ERC-20 assets. Assets within BOB’s ecosystem are guarded by Bitcoin’s robust security, seamlessly linking these leading blockchain networks.
# Building a Bitcoin-Centric, Multi-Chain Ecosystem
BOB envisions users interacting with various blockchains without relying on centralized exchanges. To realize this vision, the platform aims to expand interoperability beyond Ethereum to include chains like Solana (SOL), TRON (TRX), Aptos (APT), Arbitrum (ARB), Optimism (OP), and Polkadot (DOT). By establishing a decentralized ecosystem rooted in Bitcoin, BOB aims to consolidate liquidity while promoting cross-chain operability.
# A Multi-Phase Roadmap Focused on Bitcoin Rollups
BOB's development follows a multi-phase roadmap. Currently functioning as an Ethereum Layer 2 solution, the platform has attracted around 170,000 users. The next phase will introduce an Ethereum Layer 2 solution integrated with Bitcoin finality, enhancing security and withdrawal speeds. The final phase will implement Bitcoin rollups built on BitVM-based optimistic rollup architecture, aiming to create native BTC rollups.
To further boost the ecosystem, the BOB Foundation is setting up grant programs to energize the developer community. Developers can utilize the existing BOB SDK to create various DeFi services that bridge Bitcoin and Ethereum.
In concluding its vision statement, BOB shared an ambitious outlook: “Just as there are hundreds of banks, we foresee hundreds of chains. By anchoring trust in Bitcoin, we aim to redefine the DeFi ecosystem.”
