- Ether.fi’s major update adds tokenized asset trading, lending, and global fiat support with $3.5B TVL
- Platform targets mainstream adoption with user-centric app and strong financial metrics
On August 13, 2026, The Block reported Ether.fi’s launch of the “Summer” update, transforming the platform into a next-generation crypto neobank with $3.5 billion in total value locked (TVL) and a global rollout. The release introduced expanded financial offerings, including seamless savings, earning, and trading of cryptocurrencies alongside tokenized stocks and metals through xStocks. Users can now lend and borrow against their portfolio collateral at a DeFi rate of around 4%, utilizing a new Aave market on Optimism.
The upgrade integrated mainstream-ready fiat services, enabling support for over 30 traditional currencies. According to CaptainAltcoin, Ether.fi now offers global on- and off-ramps for deposits, withdrawals, and everyday spending, featuring new account names, bank transfers, and compatibility with payment tools like Cash App and Apple Pay. These additions streamline onboarding for users worldwide.
Ether.fi emphasized security and usability by keeping assets in self-custodial vaults with social recovery, balancing accessibility for mainstream users with DeFi-grade protection, as described by Cryptopolitan.
The platform introduced a new rewards structure, including 3% cash back on purchases made with the ether.fi Cash card. Higher membership tiers feature zero top-up fees and no forex fees. Ether.fi announced ongoing, programmatic ETHFI buybacks funded by all product revenue lines.
The updated app design shifts toward simplicity, removing crypto-centric aspects and making real-world payments and DeFi services accessible to mainstream, non-specialist users. This approach aims to broaden Ether.fi’s adoption beyond the original crypto user base.
Ether.fi’s global expansion is central to the Summer update. The new offerings target balanced savings and everyday banking rather than high-risk or gambling-related use cases. However, tokenized stock and metal trading remains unavailable to U.S. users due to regulatory restrictions.
According to Decrypt, Ether.fi retained $3.5 billion in TVL and over $219 million in annualized fees, with protocol revenue exceeding $50 million as of August 2026.
As of August 13, 2026, 15:09 UTC, ether.fi (ETHFI) is trading at $0.403, with a 6.9% change in 24-hour volume, according to Market Survey data.
