Tristan Thompson Files $2M Lawsuit Over World Mobile Crypto Endorsement Termination
- NBA champion claims breach of contract and misuse of likeness
- Legal battle centers on WMTX token payments and unresolved compensation
On May 31, 2026 (UTC), Bitget reported that former NBA champion Tristan Thompson filed a $2 million lawsuit in Delaware’s Chancery Court against UK-based crypto telecom company World Mobile Group, alleging breach of contract and unauthorized use of his identity after their endorsement deal, which was paid in WMTX tokens, was terminated.
Thompson's legal complaint states World Mobile Group ended their ambassador partnership wrongfully, yet continued to use his name and likeness without consent. The company said it terminated the agreement due to excess token sales and Thompson’s failure to return what it called overpaid WMTX tokens. Thompson disputes this, describing the explanation as a manufactured pretext. He seeks damages, unpaid compensation, interest, and an injunction barring further use of his identity.
The lawsuit has drawn attention for its focus on the intersection of contractual rights in crypto-asset endorsements and issues involving celebrity likeness. Thompson’s growing technology and crypto investments add a noteworthy dimension to the dispute’s public profile.
The case is ongoing and, according to Bitget, no settlement or resolution has yet been reached.
