On May 31, 2026 (UTC), Bitget reported that retired NBA champion Tristan Thompson filed a $2 million lawsuit in Delaware Chancery Court against World Mobile Group, a UK-based crypto telecom company, over a disputed endorsement contract involving quarterly token payments and use of his name, image, and likeness.

According to Bitget, Thompson signed the deal in May 2025, under which World Mobile Group agreed to distribute regular WMTX token payments and secured rights to use Thompson’s identity in brand promotions.

The conflict began when World Mobile claimed it had overpaid Thompson in tokens. Thompson suggested offsetting the excess against future installments, but World Mobile instead terminated the agreement, citing his alleged failure to return the surplus tokens and his sale of some of his holdings.

Thompson’s lawsuit asserts breach of contract and unauthorized commercial use of his likeness. He demands compensation for unpaid earnings and seeks a court injunction to stop World Mobile from using his image in further marketing activities.

This case underscores ongoing challenges with enforcing and regulating celebrity endorsements in the crypto sector, where contractual and regulatory complexities remain unresolved.
