On September 9, 2026 (UTC), Reuters reported that Samsung Electronics will manufacture a custom artificial intelligence chip for OpenAI, significantly expanding their partnership in semiconductors and enterprise AI integration.

The new chip is designed as a next-generation inference solution and will succeed OpenAI’s Jalapeno inference chip, previously produced by TSMC. This collaboration positions Samsung as OpenAI’s alternative chip manufacturing partner, helping OpenAI diversify its supply chain and reduce dependency on TSMC.

Samsung will fabricate the custom AI chip and supply high-bandwidth memory (HBM) optimized for advanced AI workloads. These components are intended to support OpenAI’s Stargate data center initiative, which handles large-scale AI workloads and model deployments.

Meanwhile, Samsung is accelerating ChatGPT adoption among its employees globally. The company continues to integrate AI tools across operations, reflecting a strong trend in enterprise AI adoption both in South Korea and worldwide.
