  • NBA champion alleges breach of contract and unauthorized use of likeness after partnership ended
  • Delaware Chancery Court case centers on disputed WMTX token payment to Thompson

On May 31, 2026 (UTC), Law360 reported that NBA champion Tristan Thompson filed a $2 million lawsuit against U.K.-based crypto telecom firm World Mobile Group, after an endorsement deal soured and propelled the retired player back into headlines. The suit, filed in Delaware’s Chancery Court, alleges breach of contract and continued use of Thompson’s likeness following the termination of an ambassador agreement. The dispute revolves around a mistaken overpayment in WMTX tokens to Thompson, with World Mobile opting to sever ties instead of accepting Thompson’s offer to credit the token discrepancy to future distributions.

Thompson is seeking unpaid compensation, damages, accrued interest, and a court order to prevent further promotion using his image. He claims World Mobile continued to feature his likeness in promotional materials after ending the partnership. Bloomberg Law and Front Office Sports confirmed the legal filings on May 31, 2026.

The lawsuit focuses on World Mobile’s alleged refusal to resolve the mistaken token payment amicably. Thompson’s legal team asserts that World Mobile wrongfully terminated the endorsement contract and continued to use Thompson’s name and image after the break.

Court records show Thompson is pursuing financial recovery, as well as an injunction barring further unauthorized use of his likeness.
