- SBI’s $100 million investment targets Erebor’s blockchain-based cross-border settlement platform.
- The deal connects Japan’s yen stablecoin infrastructure with a U.S. regulated digital bank backed by Palmer Luckey.
SBI Holdings has invested $100 million in Erebor Bank, a U.S. federally chartered digital bank co-founded by Palmer Luckey. The deal aims to build blockchain-based cross-border settlement infrastructure and stablecoin banking between the U.S. and Japan, expanding SBI’s regulated presence in the U.S. and boosting its capabilities for compliant on-chain settlements and stablecoin transactions.
On November 3, 2026, Nikkei Asia reported that Erebor Bank is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, focusing on technology, defense, energy, and manufacturing sectors. Erebor gained national bank status from U.S. regulators in February 2026 and, as of September 2026, held over $7 billion in deposits. The bank’s system enables 24/7 blockchain settlements, live stablecoin services, and direct integration with major payment networks.
The advanced blockchain backbone of Erebor aligns with SBI’s ongoing expansion in digital asset services. SBI issues multiple stablecoins, including Japan’s first trust-backed yen stablecoin (JPYSC). According to Ledger Insights, the investment boosts SBI’s capacity for cross-border financial flows, potentially integrating Erebor’s stablecoin infrastructure with JPYSC and SBI’s international blockchain initiatives.
Previous Erebor funding rounds included $30 million from Robinhood Ventures Fund I, with institutional investors showing increasing interest. Erebor’s leadership team counts CEO Owen Rapaport, Chairman Jacob Hirshman, and co-founder Palmer Luckey, known for his work in U.S. defense technology.
The investment positions Erebor as a central platform for regulated cross-border stablecoin settlements, strengthening digital asset connections between Japan and the U.S. TokenPost noted that Erebor’s dual focus on high-tech industries and crypto-native companies puts it at the intersection of programmable money and traditional banking.
