# Ripple Recommences RLUSD Stablecoin Issuance as Regulatory Changes Loom Ripple has resumed issuing its RLUSD stablecoin, adding approximately 12 million new tokens to the market. According to Cryptopolitan on June 13, this marks Ripple’s first issuance of RLUSD after pausing in April to stabilize supply and meet demand. The timing aligns with the upcoming U.S. Senate vote on June 17 regarding the proposed “GENIUS” bill, aimed at establishing a federal regulatory framework for stablecoins. Ripple's move is seen as a strategy to enhance RLUSD’s market liquidity ahead of potential regulatory clarity. # Ripple’s Recent Strategies and Market Movements Ripple initially paused RLUSD issuance in April to maintain market stability. The last issuance was 23 million RLUSD tokens in two rounds on April 25. Currently, CoinMarketCap reports 425.74 million RLUSD tokens in circulation. In May, Ripple burned 4 million RLUSD tokens to reduce supply, part of wider efforts to balance market dynamics. Ripple has also increased RLUSD’s accessibility by listing it on Bitget, Gemini, and Revolut. # GENIUS Bill: Potential Impact on Stablecoin Growth The GENIUS bill, if passed, will introduce a regulatory framework for stablecoins, bringing clarity to the market. If approved by the Senate on June 17, it will move to the House of Representatives for further deliberation. Nick Percelin, founder of Coin Bureau, views the bill as a catalyst for broader stablecoin adoption. Currently, Circle’s USDC and Tether’s USDT dominate the stablecoin market. The bill’s passage could encourage banks and other institutions to issue stablecoins, increasing competition and market diversity. “Initially, we may see various stablecoins entering the market,” Percelin remarked. He also noted that most stablecoins are pegged to the U.S. dollar, and regulatory support would solidify the dollar’s global influence. # Legislative Backing and Opposition Senator Bill Hagerty, the bill’s sponsor, has urged lawmakers to support it, warning that without regulation, stablecoin innovation could move overseas, affecting U.S. competitiveness. Critics, however, argue that the bill may undermine the decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies and could lead to regulatory favoritism for certain stablecoins. As the Senate vote approaches, Ripple's resumed issuance of RLUSD reflects a strategic move to position itself advantageously within a changing regulatory landscape.
