# IONet and Photobots Collaboration Accelerates Decentralized AI and Robotics Ecosystem Growth
IONet, a prominent AI compute network platform, has teamed up with Photobots, a groundbreaking robotics gaming project, to bolster the decentralized AI and robotics ecosystem. During a community AMA on October 14, both projects shared significant progress and insights into their synergistic efforts, combining data and computing infrastructure.
# Photobots: Integrating Gaming with Robotics Research
Photobots features a unique game that allows users to control real-world robots remotely for collecting items such as NFTs. The operational data gathered, such as driving behaviors, is repurposed for robotic research. Partnering with the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), a research paper highlighted that the Photobots dataset is over 25 times larger than conventional robotics training datasets.
Michael, Photobots' founder, underscored the necessity of large-scale data for cutting-edge AI model training. "With thousands of hours of data collected from various regions, we can now train extensive AI models using video and sensor inputs, necessitating petabyte-scale datasets and substantial compute power," he said. He stressed the importance of a decentralized compute infrastructure for low-latency, real-time analysis of geographically dispersed robotic data.
# IONet’s Decentralized Compute Solution
IONet addresses these compute challenges with a decentralized model. A representative from IONet explained, "Photobots collects data including multimodal video, robotic sensor information, GPS data, and audio. Training large AI models using such large datasets becomes more efficient with decentralized compute nodes rather than traditional centralized servers." They also noted that IONet's GPU resources are up to 90% more cost-effective than traditional hyperscalers.
IONet is currently expanding its GPU-based compute resources to support inference APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) services, and more. Basam, IONet’s co-founder, stated, "IONet Intelligence processes hundreds of thousands of monthly API requests from thousands of users, and we are gearing up to launch multimodal AI agent workflows integrated with RAG soon."
# Expansion Plans Beyond Collaboration
Beyond their individual projects, IONet and Photobots aim to establish a "Big Robot" network to support extensive robotics experiments and infrastructure supply. Photobots is also developing new data-driven gaming experiences like "Ultimate Fighting Bots (UFB)," featuring humanoid robots in competitive bouts, in addition to their existing SWAT robot lineup.
# Showcasing Technology and Vision
IONet intends to showcase its technologies and collaborative breakthroughs at upcoming events, including AI developer conferences in San Francisco, Copenhagen, and Singapore.
This strategic partnership significantly advances the decentralized AI ecosystem, offering access to larger datasets, faster inference capabilities, and expanding the scope of robotics experiments, thereby bringing the futuristic vision closer to reality.
