# Blockchain Gaming Activity Surges on Layer-2 Networks Amid Market Uncertainty Blockchain gaming activities have surged on certain Layer-2 blockchain networks; however, overall monthly active wallet numbers have declined due to market uncertainties, according to a new report. DappRadar's report, cited by Cointelegraph on the 13th (local time), revealed that while gaming activities on some Layer-2 blockchains increased by over 20,000% in February 2025, the number of daily unique active wallets (dUAW) fell by 16% compared to the previous month, totaling around 5.8 million. This has been attributed to traders shifting towards decentralized finance (DeFi) amidst the prevalent market uncertainties. # Abstract and Soneium Lead the Surge in Gaming Activities Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain Abstract recorded a dUAW growth rate of over 20,000%, leading all chains. Abstract is a blockchain developed by Igloo, the parent company of the NFT collection 'Pudgy Penguins.' Soneium, Sony's Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain, ranked second with a growth rate exceeding 3,200%, while another Layer-2 blockchain, Linea, claimed third place with growth surpassing 1,000%. The primary games driving activity increases on Abstract and Soneium were 'Treasure Ship' and 'Evermoon,' respectively. Treasure Ship had approximately 72,000 active wallets, while Evermoon recorded around 32,000 active wallets. # Increased Investment in Blockchain Gaming, Yet DeFi Takes the Lead The report indicated that while blockchain gaming still maintains a strong market share, the economic environment has led investors to focus on DeFi. Blockchain gaming investments reached $55 million in February 2025, reflecting a 243% increase compared to January, with 92% of the funds allocated to infrastructure development. By dUAW metrics, the most dominant blockchains were the BNB Smart Chain-based Layer-2 blockchain opBNB, the independent Layer-1 blockchain Aptos designed for decentralized applications, and the Skale chain Nebula. Additionally, blockchain gaming activities have shown an annual growth trend. Cointelegraph reported that in February 2025, blockchain gaming activities increased by 386% year-on-year, with the daily active wallet count reaching 7 million. Despite this growth, industry experts have raised concerns about the sustainability of the inflow of funds. Gunzilla Games' Web3 Director Theodore Agranat noted, "No new money is flowing into the system," with existing funds circulating between game projects. He added, "When investors no longer see value in a project, they will move on to another project."
