# South Korean Markets Open Higher; Won Edges Up Against Dollar
South Korea's benchmark KOSPI index opened at 2598.06 points on October 13, up 23.24 points or 0.90% from the previous trading session's close of 2574.82 points.
The KOSDAQ index also started the day on a positive note, rising 6.26 points or 0.86% to begin trading at 735.75 points, compared to its previous close of 729.49 points.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the South Korean won opened stronger against the U.S. dollar at 1450.5 won, down 0.5 won from the previous session's close of 1451.0 won.
