This move indicates continued interest from institutional investors in the cryptocurrency market.
# Cboe Requests Ethereum ETF Staking Permission, SEC's Decision Anticipated
In a related development, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) has requested the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to allow staking features in Ethereum spot ETFs. Historically, the SEC has not permitted staking within ETFs, yet recent shifts in regulatory stance are being observed.
Prior to the approval of spot Ethereum ETFs last July, several issuers had submitted applications that included staking features, but these were rejected by the SEC. However, Cboe is now collaborating with five Ethereum ETF issuers—Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, VanEck, Invesco/Galaxy—to submit revised documents seeking permission for staking.
ETF analyst James Seyffart predicts a high likelihood that the SEC will approve staking within ETFs by the end of this year. Given the SEC's recent relatively positive attitude towards cryptocurrency ETFs, the market is keenly watching this development to see if the request will gain approval.
