# Coinbase Announces 24/7 Bitcoin and Ethereum Futures Trading Coinbase, through its Coinbase Derivatives Exchange regulated by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has unveiled plans to offer round-the-clock, year-round trading for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) futures. According to reports on the 10th (local time), Coinbase stated in an official announcement that it will support the operation of BTC and ETH futures trading in the coming weeks. The U.S. futures market currently operates according to traditional trading hours, which has been criticized for not aligning with the 24-hour trading nature of the cryptocurrency market. Coinbase highlighted that fixed trading hours prevent traders from responding immediately to key market fluctuations. The introduction of 24/7 trading aims to address these limitations in the existing futures market. Presently, the cryptocurrency futures trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) allows for one hour of rest per day, with trading halting from 4 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday. In contrast, overseas cryptocurrency exchanges support 24-hour futures trading, resulting in a competitive disadvantage for U.S.-based traders. Coinbase also revealed that it is developing new types of futures products, including perpetual futures contracts. These products aim to narrow the gap between futures offerings available under U.S. regulations and those available on international exchanges. The company emphasized that it is working closely with the CFTC and industry partners to finalize the design of these new products. Coinbase aims to comply with regulatory requirements while meeting customer needs.
