# Dow Jones Plunges 8% Amid Recession Warnings from President Trump
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has indicated that he does not rule out the possibility of a temporary economic slowdown. On the 10th of this month, during trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted by approximately 8%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index fell by more than 3%.
According to CNBC and other sources, as of 11:16 a.m. Eastern Time, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had dropped 325 points (8%) from the previous close, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index was trading down 3.5% from the prior session's close.
Both the Standard & Poor’s (S&P) 500 Index and the Nasdaq Composite Index reached their lowest levels since September of last year.
In an interview aired on Fox News on the 9th, President Trump discussed the effectiveness of his economic policies, conceding that “it takes a little time” and did not dismiss the possibility of a recession this year.
When asked whether he anticipated a recession this year due to fears of an economic slowdown in the U.S., Trump replied, “There will be a transition period. We are trying to bring wealth back to America, which is a very big task, and it takes some time.”
The uncertainty brought about by the Trump administration’s tariff policies has continued to exert a downward trend on the New York stock markets. President Trump's remarks about a potential recession have further intensified the market's decline.
